• Datacentre network infrastructure market set to grow

The global datacentre network infrastructure market is set to grow at a rate of almost 5% CAGR between now and 2020, the latest research from Technavio has revealed.

The report claimed Western Europe has a strong presence in colocation and managed hosting data centres. It named companies such as British Telecom and Deutsche Telekom as some of the top providers along with cloud service providers (CSPs), such as Google and Microsoft, which operate large data centres across the region.

Technavio also reported that the customer base for CSPs and colocation vendors is growing rapidly with the growing adoption of cloud-based services by SMEs.

“Increase in the implementation of software-defined networking and network function virtualisation solutions will have a significant impact on the adoption of network infrastructure among data centres worldwide,” said Abhishek Sharma, lead data centre researcher at Technavio.

Outside of Western Europe, the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries were said to be experiencing increased construction of data centres within a growing number of smart cities and enterprises. Telecommunication operators in Africa are also showing great interest in the construction of data centres and many are also involved in improving connectivity across the region by laying submarine cables.
