With mandation of £500K fines being muted for data loss and mobile storage device security firmly on the public sector agenda, technology services provider Probrand has opened a specialist device security department.
A recent survey by the company found that 90%* of IT end users said they were aware of the Government's plans to mandate fields relating to data loss. However, many participants acknowledged a need for further specific guidance regarding mobile storage device security. Probrand believes this is impacting upon early adoption of appropriate devices.
Probrand's new department aims to help the public sector tackle this issue with free guidance, support and special 'approved' deals for public sector professionals looking for clarity in this space.
The move follows the company's sole supplier status to the NHS resource procurement hub providing user-friendly SafeStick encrypted USB drives. The collaboration is seeing the supply of the drives, which provide 'always-on' AES256 encryption and exceed Connecting for Health specifications, offered at heavily discounted rates as part of Probrand's ongoing commitment to supporting the public sector.
SafeStick military grade hardware is also being provided with a free trial of SafeConsole a centralised web-based management system that provides a single point of control for all USB devices within an organisation.
This means USB access codes can be changed and verified for each device, which guarantees entry to the device user only. This is unlike many pseudo protected mobile devices that recently hit the headlines with flaws that allow access without the required password.
Probrand sales manager, Richard Hunter-Rice, said: "There appears to be different approaches by different authorities and our specialist service will help deliver guidance. It will support both public and private sectors in the search for appropriate mobile storage devices.
"We are here to help with a new specialist team that can impartially deliver end-to-end advice to help buying professionals buy-right first time. That means robust, compatible and highly encrypted user friendly devices.
"It is common knowledge that data loss is not acceptable and we can offer a consistent credible approach to the mobile storage device security challenge."
Probrand's technical helpline is 0870 7000 210 and the business has setup a specialist area within its dedicated online procurement portal www.theitindex.co.uk/safestick
